The current study revealed that scholars at the University of Constantine 2 Abdelhamid Mehri support the project of establishing a scientific research repository, and they show readiness to deposit and publish their researches in the above-mentioned repository. This study aimed to build and implement the institutional digital repository of the University of Constantine 2 Abdelhamid Mehri, which was named the Abdelhamid Mehri University Constantine2 Scholarly Works Repository. This study relied on the descriptive approach in order to monitor, collect and analyze data and information about the digital repositories along with their development projects, and on the applied approach as well to build and test the institutional digital repository of Abdelhamid Mehri Constantine University 2. This study comes under eight chapters in addition to a methodological chapter; the first chapter is a general introduction which treats some concepts of scientific communication, open access movement, digital repositories, the role of university libraries in building and developing digital repositories, as well as studying the status of the open access movement in Algeria and to conclude by mentioning the next generation of digital repositories technology and Open Science, which is the new generation of open scientific communication. The second chapter was entitled "Projects to support and develop institutional digital repositories", in which the researcher presented a set of guidelines that contribute and help those in charge of repositories to build and manage their projects on technical, legal, and administrative sides. The researcher talked also about the projects launched nationally by many countries in order support the creation of digital repositories. As for the third chapter, it aimed to evaluate the digital repositories of Algerian universities, which counted 36 digital repositories, by using the evaluating digital repositories criteria (53 criterion) and by dividing them into four axes: the organizational and administrative structure of the repository, the management of the digital entity, the technical environment and the technologies, and the warehouse services. The fourth chapter aims to identify the extent of awareness of scholars at Constantine 2 Abdelhamid Mehri university of the concept of open access and digital repositories and to which extent they contribute to the university repository, via distributing a questionnaire of 37 questions to a sample of 133 scholars. The fifth and sixth chapters presented a theoretical and practical model of how to build an institutional digital repository, with a focus on Dspace and Ubuntu. In the seventh chapter, the researcher presented the stages of planning and implementing the institutional digital repository project at the University of Abdelhamid Mehri Constantine 2, and he ended the study with providing a number of results and recommendations. The researcher also presented a national project that contributes to the follow-up and development of digital repositories projects in Algeria, and the building of the Algerian institutional digital repositories network. Finally, the eighth chapter, in which we presented the findings of the study, with a set of recommendations for the benefit of professors, researchers, managers of digital repositories, in addition to proposing a national project initiative aimed at following up and developing digital repositories in Algerian academic institutions. |
